I pledge to properly dispose of trash.

I pledge to only put trash where it belongs.

I pledge to stop or slow my use and purchase of single-use plastics, like water bottles, straws, utensils, shopping bags, to-go cups, etc.

What does it all mean?

Trash, especially plastics, can result in deadly consequences to our water supply.

• By properly disposing of trash you’re keeping it out of our streams, rivers, lakes, and even oceans. Plastics especially can have numerous harmful effects on wildlife and even human health.
• Plastic bottles and bags don’t ever fully degrade. Instead they break down into microplastics. These tiny particles, less than 5 mm long, end up in our waterways where they are consumed by wildlife and even humans. Microplastics can cause severe health issues in wildlife including punctured organs and fatal blockages of the intestines.
• Water pollution from litter often begins on land. Litter gets washed by rain directly into waterways or through storm drains where it continues to rivers and streams.
